When a Mother is on the Journey…

How does the Labour pain in pregnancy feel like?

Posted On October 29, 2017

Many women who’re gonna be a first-time Mothers may be unaware of the real labour pain. They are often confused with Braxton Hicks contractions. This contraction might feel like a labour pain but it’s the contraction of the uterus simply getting ready for the actual labour.

So how does the actual labour feels like?

The explanation can vary from women to women. Some may feel like bad menstruation cramping, others may feel like tightening of the uterus, sometimes like a lower back pain or even feel like pressure as if you want to poop really bad.

There are 3 stages of labour pain that progresses throughout.

At the first stage of labour, it feels like you have a pain but the one that’s bearable. It comes and goes repeatedly. You’ll feel pain in the lower back or lower tummy area that can make you quite uncomfortable.

As the labour progresses, the pain starts to build up and becomes more powerful. The contraction might occur every 2-3 minutes. It indicates your cervix has been dilated enough. It can make you restless and tired.

There is also a transition period where you will reach the beginning of the second stage of the labour. In this stage, your cervix is fully dilated. It means you will get a sudden urge to push.

In the second stage, you will push your baby. The contraction in this stage is different than a first stage. Here you’ll feel you are pushing down your baby on your own.

Finally, in the third stage, the placenta will be detached. For this, you have to wait for the midwives instruction. You have to push or simply cough harder to deliver the placenta. It’s not painful compared to labour pain but you’ll be conscious of it.

To conclude, labour pain is utterly different than any of the pain you felt in your life. You can neither control it nor tolerate it. It doesn’t go away even if you want to. You feel like it’s never-ending.

Nevertheless, the pain goes away once you hold your baby in your arms. The long unbearable labour pain will pay off once you look at your baby for the very first time

It’s just a part of the motherhood journey. Women are brave enough to endure any pain even the labour pain.
